Cynthia Bebout acted in off-Broadway performances in New York. Scheider later moved to film editing, becoming assistant editor for the 1971 film ''[The French Connection](/source/The_French_Connection_(film))'', working for [Gerald B. Greenberg](/source/Gerald_B._Greenberg), who won both the [Academy Award for Best Film Editing](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Film_Editing) and the [BAFTA Award for Best Editing](/source/BAFTA_Award_for_Best_Editing) for his work. Scheider worked with Greenberg again on the film ''[The Seven-Ups](/source/The_Seven-Ups)'' in 1973. In 1977, Scheider worked with [William Friedkin](/source/William_Friedkin) on the film ''[Sorcerer](/source/Sorcerer_(film)).'' In 1986, she worked on the film ''[The Men's Club](/source/The_Men's_Club)''.
