# Cynarine

**Cynarine** is a [hydroxycinnamic acid](/source/Hydroxycinnamic_acid) [derivative](/source/Derivative_(chemistry)) and a biologically active chemical constituent of [artichoke](/source/Artichoke) (*Cynara cardunculus*).[1]

Chemically, it is an [ester](/source/Ester) formed from [quinic acid](/source/Quinic_acid) and two units of [caffeic acid](/source/Caffeic_acid).
