It includes a single species, '''''Cylicodiscus gabunensis''''', a tree native to the rain forests of western and west-central Africa, ranging from [Côte d'Ivoire](/source/C%C3%B4te_d'Ivoire) to [Central African Republic](/source/Central_African_Republic) and [Republic of the Congo](/source/Republic_of_the_Congo).<ref name = powo/>

''Cylicodiscus gabunensis'' is a very large tree, reaching {{convert|200|ft|m}} in height and {{convert|37|ft|m}} in girth. Trees are armed with thorns as saplings and unarmed as adults. Flowers are yellowish or greenish-white and arranged on spikes. Fruits are pods up to {{convert|3|ft|m}} long. Seeds are flat, thinky winged, and up to {{convert|3|in|cm}} long.<ref name = powo/>
