# Cy Harrison

**Alex "Cy" Harrison** (born c.1949) is a former [boxer](/source/Boxing) from Scotland who won a silver medal at the [Commonwealth Games](/source/Commonwealth_Games).

## Biography

Harrison was a member of the Denbeath Amateur Boxing Club in Leven.[2] He represented the [Scottish Commonwealth Games team](/source/Scotland_at_the_1974_British_Commonwealth_Games)[1] at the [1974 British Commonwealth Games](/source/1974_British_Commonwealth_Games) in [Christchurch](/source/Christchurch), New Zealand,[3] participating in the [light-middleweight category](/source/Boxing_at_the_1974_British_Commonwealth_Games).[4] He won the silver medal after beating [Ricky Barnor](/source/Ricky_Barnor), Siologologo Afamilioni and [Lance Revill](/source/Lance_Revill)[5] before being beaten in the final bout by [Lottie Mwale](/source/Lottie_Mwale) of Zambia.[6][7]

He continued to represent Scotland after the Games[8] and after retaining his Scottish title in February 1975[9] he went on to win the prestigious [Light-middleweight ABA Championship](/source/England_Boxing_National_Amateur_Championships_Light-Middleweight_Champions) at the [Empire Pool](/source/Wembley_Arena), Wembley.[10]

A steel worker by profession, he announced his retirement in 1976 when at the time he was described as Scotland's leading amateur boxer and had fought in over 100 bouts and boxed 18 times for Scotland.[11] However, he made a comeback and won the Scottish middleweight title in 1982[12] and boxing out of Cosmos ABC, he finished runner-up to [Jimmy Price](/source/Jimmy_Price) in the 1982 [middleweight ABA Championship](/source/England_Boxing_National_Amateur_Championships_Middleweight_Champions) final.[13]
