It is located west of [St Augustine](/source/Saint_Augustine%2C_Trinidad_and_Tobago) and east of [St Joseph](/source/Saint_Joseph_(Trinidad_and_Tobago)). Curepe adjacents the St. Augustine campus of the [University of the West Indies](/source/University_of_the_West_Indies). Many of the students attending the university live in Curepe. Curepe began as a crossroads, where the [Southern Main Road](/source/Southern_Main_Road) ran south. Although the Southern Main Road has largely been supplanted by highways, Curepe remains an important transportation hub for private taxis and [maxi taxi](/source/maxi_taxi)s which ply the route south to [San Fernando](/source/San_Fernando%2C_Trinidad_and_Tobago) and [Chaguanas](/source/Chaguanas).
