'''''Cubispa''''' is a genus of [leaf beetle](/source/leaf_beetle)s consisting of two species from [Central America](/source/Central_America) and the [Caribbean](/source/Caribbean). It is classified within the tribe [Cubispini](/source/Cubispini), which is placed within either the [Eumolpinae](/source/Eumolpinae) or the [Cassidinae](/source/Cassidinae). Beetles in the genus are [wingless](/source/wingless_insect), and are associated with [cloud forest](/source/cloud_forest)s.<ref name="Staines2000">{{cite journal|last=Staines|first=C. L.|year=2000|title=A new species of ''Cubispa'' Barber, 1946 (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) from Guatemala|journal=[Deutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift](/source/Deutsche_Entomologische_Zeitschrift)|volume=47|issue=1|pages=57–60|doi=10.1002/dez.200000006|doi-broken-date=11 July 2025|url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/dez.200000006}}</ref>

==Taxonomy==
The genus ''Cubispa'' was originally established by [Herbert Spencer Barber](/source/Herbert_Spencer_Barber) for a single species described from Cuba, ''Cubispa turquino'', and was placed in the subfamily Hispinae (now included in [Cassidinae](/source/Cassidinae)), in the tribe [Cephaloleini](/source/Cephaloleini). It was transferred to the subfamily Eumolpinae in 1954 by Francisco Monrós, who placed the genus in its own tribe, [Cubispini](/source/Cubispini).<ref>{{cite journal|last=Monrós|first=F.|year=1954|title=Notes and synonyms in Chrysomelidae (Coleoptera)|url=https://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/16179072|journal=[Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington](/source/Proceedings_of_the_Entomological_Society_of_Washington)|volume=56|issue=1|pages=23–26}}</ref> A second species for the genus, ''Cubispa esmeralda'', was described by C.L. Staines from Guatemala in 2000.<ref name="Staines2000"/> A second genus, ''[Lobispa](/source/Lobispa)'', was described and placed in the tribe Cubispini in 2001.<ref name="Staines2001">{{cite journal|first=C. L.|last=Staines|year=2001|title=A new genus and two new species of Eumolpinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) from tropical America|url=https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/16279340|journal=[Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington](/source/Proceedings_of_the_Entomological_Society_of_Washington)|volume=103|issue=1|pages=98–102}}</ref>

According to Borowiec & Świętojańska (2014), the placement of the tribe Cubispini and the genus ''Cubispa'' is still uncertain, and they prefer to exclude ''Cubispa'' from Eumolpinae and retain it in Cassidinae.<ref>{{cite book|first1=Lech|last1=Borowiec|first2=Jolanta|last2= Świętojańska|year=2014|chapter=2.7.2 Cassidinae Gyllenhal, 1813|pages=198–217|editor-last1=Leschen|editor-first1=R.A.B.|editor-last2=Beutel|editor-first2=R.G.|title=Handbook of Zoology.
