# Crystal Clarke

**Crystal Clarke** (born c. 1994)[1] is an American actress. She is best known for her roles as Tina Argyll in the [BBC](/source/BBC) and [Amazon Prime](/source/Amazon_Prime) miniseries *[Ordeal by Innocence](/source/Ordeal_by_Innocence_(TV_series))* (2018) and Georgiana Lambe in the [ITV](/source/ITV_(TV_network)) and [PBS](/source/PBS) adaptation of the [Jane Austen](/source/Jane_Austen) novel *[Sanditon](/source/Sanditon)* (2019–2023).[2][3]

## Early life

Clarke was born and raised in [Essex County](/source/Essex_County,_New_Jersey), New Jersey, to Caribbean parents; her mother is from [Trinidad](/source/Trinidad) and her father was from [Guyana](/source/Guyana).[4][5] She has one older brother.[6] Clarke attended [Newark Arts High School](/source/Newark_Arts_High_School), graduating in 2011.[7] She also spent part of her childhood in Tennessee.[8] Clarke made the decision to leave the United States to pursue acting because she felt her race and class put her at a disadvantage.[9] Clarke moved to [Glasgow](/source/Glasgow) to attend the [Royal Conservatoire](/source/Royal_Conservatoire_of_Scotland) and graduated in 2014.[4]

## Career

Clarke made her [West End theatre](/source/West_End_theatre) debut as Hester Worsley in [Dominic Dromgoole](/source/Dominic_Dromgoole)'s revival of *[A Woman of No Importance](/source/A_Woman_of_No_Importance)*. She had roles in the *[Force Awakens](/source/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Awakens)*, and *[Last Jedi](/source/Last_Jedi)* installments of *[Star Wars](/source/Star_Wars)*.[5] She, [Lupita Nyong'o](/source/Lupita_Nyong'o) and [Maisie Richardson-Sellers](/source/Maisie_Richardson-Sellers) were the first three black actresses to appear in a *Star Wars* film in the former.[10] She also appeared in the 2019 *[Black Mirror](/source/Black_Mirror)* episode "[Smithereens](/source/Smithereens_(Black_Mirror))"[11] and the [Channel 5](/source/Channel_5_(British_TV_channel)) film *[Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar](/source/Agatha_and_the_Curse_of_Ishtar)*.[12]*

Clarke played Tina Argyll in the 2018 mini-series adaptation of [Agatha Christie](/source/Agatha_Christie)'s *[Ordeal by Innocence](/source/Ordeal_by_Innocence_(TV_series))*.[3][13] In 2019, she began starring as Miss Georgiana Lambe in the ITV and *[Masterpiece](/source/Masterpiece_(TV_series))* [adaptation](/source/Sanditon_(TV_series)) of Jane Austen's novel *[Sanditon](/source/Sanditon)*. Lambe is the only black character written by Austen.[8] In 2022, she played Magali in *[The King's Daughter](/source/The_King's_Daughter_(2022_film))*. The same year, she appeared in [Sam Mendes](/source/Sam_Mendes)' *[Empire of Light](/source/Empire_of_Light)*.[12] In 2023, she played Amber (Ruby) Bradfield in *Blindspot*, a four-part UK series.
