The **Cryptopidae** are a [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) of [scolopendromorph](/source/Scolopendromorpha#Scolopendromorpha) [centipedes](/source/Centipedes). Cryptopids are blind (lacking [ocelli](/source/Ocelli)) and possess 21 pairs of legs.[1] The genus *[Cryptops](/source/Cryptops)* is the numerically largest in the family, comprising over 150 species worldwide.[2]

The genera *[Plutonium](/source/Plutonium_(genus))* and *[Theatops](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Theatops&action=edit&redlink=1)* Newport, 1844, formerly classified in the cryptopid subfamily Plutoniuminae, are now placed in the recently elevated family [Plutoniumidae](/source/Plutoniumidae).[5]
