**Crispin "Cris" Cole** is a British writer and producer.[1]

## Career

Born in [Wallingford](/source/Wallingford,_Oxfordshire), England, Cole grew up in London and attended [Elliott School](/source/Elliott_School,_Putney) in [Roehampton](/source/Roehampton). After leaving the Elliott School, he worked as a professional guitarist and bass player for the next 15 years,[2] playing in bands including [Jimmy the Hoover](/source/Jimmy_the_Hoover), The Directions and The Hollywood Killers.

Cole turned to writing and wrote a pilot for [Tiger Aspect](/source/Tiger_Aspect_Productions)/[BBC](/source/BBC), called *Embassy*, starring [Robert Daws](/source/Robert_Daws). He has multiple other TV credits, including episodes of *[Night and Day](/source/Night_and_Day_(TV_series))*, *[Twisted Tales](/source/Twisted_Tales_(British_TV_series))* and *[The Bill](/source/The_Bill)*, feature film credits, including *[Lovebite](/source/Love_Bite_(film))* ([Ecosse Films](/source/Ecosse_Films), 2012) and *[Pelican Blood](/source/Pelican_Blood_(2010_film))*[3] ([Ecosse Films](/source/Ecosse_Films), 2010), as well as the TV movie *The Good Times Are Killing Me* ([Shaftesbury Films](/source/Shaftesbury_Films), 2009).[4] He wrote and executive produced the film *[Ana](/source/Ana_(2020_film))*, released in January 2020, starring [Andy Garcia](/source/Andy_Garc%C3%ADa) and [Dafne Keen](/source/Dafne_Keen).

Cole may be best known as the creator of the award-winning[5] and the [BAFTA](/source/British_Academy_of_Film_and_Television_Arts) nominated[6] British TV series *[Mad Dogs](/source/Mad_Dogs_(UK_TV_series))*, starring [Marc Warren](/source/Marc_Warren), [Max Beesley](/source/Max_Beesley), [John Simm](/source/John_Simm) and [Phil Glenister](/source/Philip_Glenister). He was the sole writer of all 14 episodes for the four UK seasons for [Sky TV](/source/Sky_(United_Kingdom)), produced by [Left Bank Pictures](/source/Left_Bank_Pictures).[7]

Cole was the executive producer and showrunner on the *[Mad Dogs](/source/Mad_Dogs_(U.S._TV_series))* U.S. television series made by [Amazon Studios](/source/Amazon_Studios)/[Sony Pictures Television](/source/Sony_Pictures_Television).[8] The show was streamed on Amazon in the US, Germany and the UK. Sony sold *Mad Dogs* to 140 other territories. The series starred [Ben Chaplin](/source/Ben_Chaplin), [Michael Imperioli](/source/Michael_Imperioli), [Romany Malco](/source/Romany_Malco), [Steve Zahn](/source/Steve_Zahn) and [Billy Zane](/source/Billy_Zane).[9][10]

Cole has been an advocate of Ethiopian choreographer Meseret Yirga for over 20 years. In 2019 he headed a fundraising campaign to build a community dance centre in Addis Ababa. Once the money was in place, the Meseret Yirga Dance Centre[11] was built, is now open, and serves people from low income backgrounds and the disabled in the community.

In 2022 Cole created, wrote and exec-produced ‘Rose & Layla’,[12][13][14] a ten part TV comedy drama serial for [MBC Studios](https://www.mbcstudios.com/home/), starring Egyptian TV and movie icon [Yousra](/source/Yousra) and [Nelly Karim](/source/Nelly_Karim) as two Cairo based private detectives. Shot in Cairo and directed by [Adrian Shergold](/source/Adrian_Shergold) the show was written in English and translated and made in Arabic.

## Personal life

Cole is the son of the actor [George Cole](/source/George_Cole_(actor)) and actress [Eileen Moore](/source/Eileen_Moore).[15] He is married to [Christine St. John](/source/Christine_St._John).[16]
