# Creta Forata

**Creta Forata** (*Crete Forade* in [Friulian](/source/Friulian_language)) is a mountain of the [Carnic Alps](/source/Carnic_Alps) that lies on the border of [Veneto](/source/Veneto) and [Friuli](/source/Friuli), northeast Italy, with an elevation of 2,462 m. It is located near the village of [Sappada](/source/Sappada) in the [Piave Valley](/source/Piave_(river)). Formed of [limestone](/source/Limestone), it is the highest mountain of the eastern *Terza - Siera Group* and boasts a [twin summit](/source/Twin_summit). It is of a similarly rugged nature as the [Dolomites](/source/Dolomites) to the west.[1]
