It is bounded by the upper [Wakefield River](/source/Wakefield_River) in the north, the approximate path of [Horrocks Highway](/source/Horrocks_Highway) in the west, and the [North Para River](/source/North_Para_River) in the south, and is bisected east to west by the River Light. == Hundreds == The county is divided into [hundreds](/source/hundred_(county_subdivision)) as follows: * North of the River Light are the [Hundred of Saddleworth](/source/Hundred_of_Saddleworth), [Hundred of Gilbert](/source/Hundred_of_Gilbert), [Hundred of Waterloo](/source/Hundred_of_Waterloo) and [Hundred of Kapunda](/source/Hundred_of_Kapunda); * Spanning the River Light in the east is the [Hundred of Julia Creek](/source/Hundred_of_Julia_Creek) and in the west the [Hundred of Light](/source/Hundred_of_Light); and * South of the River Light are the [Hundred of Belvidere](/source/Hundred_of_Belvidere), [Hundred of Nuriootpa](/source/Hundred_of_Nuriootpa), and '''Hundred of Moorooroo'''. == Establishment of local government == The earliest local government in the county was brought about with the establishment of the [District Council of Angaston](/source/District_Council_of_Angaston) in 1853, and the [District Council of Tanunda](/source/District_Council_of_Tanunda) in 1855, in the south-west [Hundred of Moorooroo](/source/Hundred_of_Moorooroo). By then the southernmost tip of the [Hundred of Nuriootpa](/source/Hundred_of_Nuriootpa) had been incorporated into the [Town of Gawler](/source/Town_of_Gawler), but it was not until the mid 1860s that further local government was established in the county. In 1865 the [Corporation of Kapunda](/source/Corporation_of_Kapunda) was established in the [Hundred of Kapunda](/source/Hundred_of_Kapunda), becoming a district council spanning the whole hundred in the following year. 1865 also saw the establishment of the [District Council of Stockport](/source/District_Council_of_Stockport) spanning parts of the [Hundred of Gilbert](/source/Hundred_of_Gilbert) and [Hundred of Light](/source/Hundred_of_Light) as well as the [Hundred of Alma](/source/Hundred_of_Alma) in the neighbouring [County of Gawler](/source/County_of_Gawler). The [District Council of Gilbert](/source/District_Council_of_Gilbert) and [District Council of Rhynie](/source/District_Council_of_Rhynie), established in 1866, brought local government to the remainder of the Hundred of Gilbert. The [District Council of Belvidere](/source/District_Council_of_Belvidere), also established that year, brought the same to the [Hundred of Belvidere](/source/Hundred_of_Belvidere). In 1867 the [District Council of Light](/source/District_Council_of_Light_(1867%E2%80%931892)) and [District Council of Nuriootpa](/source/District_Council_of_Nuriootpa) (later called Freeling) were established to locally govern the [Hundred of Light](/source/Hundred_of_Light) and [Hundred of Nuriootpa](/source/Hundred_of_Nuriootpa), respectively. The following year, the [District Council of Saddleworth](/source/District_Council_of_Saddleworth), [District Council of Waterloo](/source/District_Council_of_Waterloo) and [District Council of Hamilton](/source/District_Council_of_Hamilton) were established to bring local governance to the [Hundred of Saddleworth](/source/Hundred_of_Saddleworth) and [Hundred of Waterloo](/source/Hundred_of_Waterloo).
