'''''Cosmoglyphus''''' is a genus of mites in the family [Acaridae](/source/Acaridae).<ref>{{cite web |editor=Barry O'Connor |url=http://insects.tamu.edu/research/collection/hallan/Acari/Family/Acaridae.txt |title=Acaridae Species Listing |work=Biology Catalog |publisher=[Texas A&M University](/source/Texas_A%26M_University) |year=2008 |access-date=July 26, 2010}}</ref>

== Description ==
Adults of this genus can be recognised by: supracoxal [setae](/source/Seta) lanceolate and with lateral barbs; tarsi of the fourth leg pair short; males with proximal sucker on the proximal half of tarsus.<ref name=":0">{{Cite journal |last=Klimov |first=P. B. |date=2000 |title=A review of acarid mites of the tribe Caloglyphini (Acaridae, Acariformes) with description of a new genus and species from Siberia and Russian Far East |url=http://insects.ummz.lsa.umich.edu/ACARI/staff/pklimov/PDF/Klimov2000-Caloglyphini.pdf |journal=Vestnik Zoologi |volume=34 |pages=27–35}}</ref>

Deutonymphs (also known as hypopi) have the proximal ends of the [sternum](/source/Sternum_(arthropod_anatomy)) and epimerase II usually at the same transverse level near the posterior edge of the sternal shield. The genu of the fourth (sometimes third) leg pair is enlarged. The tibiae of the third and fourth leg pairs are approximately equal. The anal disk is small and the distance from it to the mite's posterior end is over 1.5 times its length. The ventrum is whole.<ref name=":0" />

== Ecology ==
''Cosmoglyphus'' are found in various habitats including dung, decaying plants and nests of [ants](/source/Ant) and [termites](/source/Termite).<ref name=":0" /><ref>{{Cite web |title=Acaroid mites (Acari: Astigmata) associated with termites (Isoptera) |url=https://esa.confex.com/esa/2001/techprogram/paper_1777.htm |access-date=2023-02-02 |website=esa.confex.com}}</ref>

There is a case of ''Cosmoglyphus'' sp. living in a woman's ear (otoacariasis), where it was presumably feeding on [fungi](/source/Fungus).<ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Pal |first1=Shekhar |last2=Negi |first2=Vikrant |last3=Bisht |first3=Ravindra Singh |last4=Juyal |first4=Deepak |date=2018 |title=Bite of a Mite: A Case of Human Otoacariasis caused by Cosmoglyphus Species (Acari: Acaridae) |journal=Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research |url=http://jcdr.net/article_fulltext.asp?issn=0973-709x&year=2018&volume=12&issue=3&page=DD03&issn=0973-709x&id=11274 |doi=10.7860/JCDR/2018/34277.11274|doi-access=free }}</ref>
