# Coryphodema

***Coryphodema tristis***, the **quince borer**, **sad goat** or **apple-trunk borer**, is a [moth](/source/Moth) of the family [Cossidae](/source/Cossidae). It is found in [Botswana](/source/Botswana) and [South Africa](/source/South_Africa).

The [wingspan](/source/Wingspan) is about 38 mm.

The larvae bore into the trunk of a wide range of plant, including species from the [Combretaceae](/source/Combretaceae), [Malvaceae](/source/Malvaceae), [Myoporaceae](/source/Myoporaceae), [Rosaceae](/source/Rosaceae), [Scorphulariaceae](/source/Scorphulariaceae), [Ulmaceae](/source/Ulmaceae) and [Vitaceae](/source/Vitaceae).[2] Some important hosts include *[Buddleja madagascariensis](/source/Buddleja_madagascariensis)*, *[Combretum](/source/Combretum)*, *[Malus](/source/Malus)* and [quince](/source/Quince) species. It has also been found feeding on *[Eucalyptus nitens](/source/Eucalyptus_nitens)*.[3]
