# Coprus

**Coprus** or **Kopros** ([Ancient Greek](/source/Ancient_Greek_language): Κόπρος) was a [deme](/source/Deme) of [ancient Athens](/source/Ancient_Athens), of the *[phyle](/source/Phyle)* of [Hippothontis](/source/Hippothontis), sending two delegates to the [Athenian Boule](/source/Boule_(ancient_Greece)).[1] One of the characters of [Aristophanes's](/source/Aristophanes) *[The Knights](/source/The_Knights)* is from this deme.

Its site is located near east of [Eleusis](/source/Eleusis).[2][3]
