'''Copperfields Mine''', originally known as '''Temagami Mine''', is an abandoned copper and silver mine on [Temagami Island](/source/Temagami_Island) in [Lake Temagami](/source/Lake_Temagami), Ontario, Canada. The mine opened in 1955 and comprises both underground and surface workings within a sulfide [ore](/source/ore) body. Situated in [Phyllis Township](/source/Phyllis_Township), the mine produced 34,000,000 dollars Canadian with 80 million pounds of [copper](/source/copper), 230,028 ounces of [silver](/source/silver) and 13,271 ounces of [gold](/source/gold).<ref name="GGSN">{{cite journal|title=Ground Geophysical Surveys: Niemetz Property |id={{Afri|31M04SW2038}} }}</ref> It was considered to be the largest deposit of nearly pure [chalcopyrite](/source/chalcopyrite) ever discovered in Canada.<ref>{{cite book|last1=Barnes|first1=Michael|year=2008|title=More Than Free Gold|publisher=General Store Publishing House|location=[Renfrew, Ontario](/source/Renfrew%2C_Ontario)|isbn=978-1-897113-90-5|page=31|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=R54EKg_TcKwC&q=temagami&pg=PA31|access-date=2015-08-02}}</ref> A mill was not initially needed because the ore was 28% copper.<ref>{{cite web |title=Norman B. Ruins of the Copperfields mill are present as foundations. It is possible to find [mineral](/source/mineral) specimens in the spoil heaps of the old mine, such as [chalcopyrite](/source/chalcopyrite), [pyrite](/source/pyrite), [bornite](/source/bornite), [malachite](/source/malachite), [dolomite](/source/dolomite_(mineral)), [hessite](/source/hessite), [merenskyite](/source/merenskyite), [millerite](/source/millerite), [palladium](/source/palladium), [quartz](/source/quartz) and others. The [Lake Temagami Access Road](/source/Lake_Temagami_Access_Road) was created to ship ore from the mine site.

Copper-nickel mineralization at the mine is associated with semi-massive to disseminated pyrite at the lower contact between altered [gabbro](/source/gabbro) and [rhyolite](/source/rhyolite) of the [Temagami Greenstone Belt](/source/Temagami_Greenstone_Belt). The gabbro is steeply [dipping](/source/Strike_and_dip), approximately 250 m thick and has a strike extent of at least 5 km. The intensity of mineralization varies greatly but is present over most of the defined strike length of the gabbro. Copper is associated with chalcopyrite. Nickel is associated with millerite, [gersdorffite](/source/gersdorffite), [linnaeite](/source/linnaeite) and cobalt-nickel sulfarsenides.

Copperfields Mine is the discovery site of a bright white [mineral](/source/mineral) called [temagamite](/source/temagamite).<ref>[http://www.mindat.org/min-3908.html Temagamite: Temagamite mineral information and data.] Retrieved on 2007-08-30</ref> It was discovered in 1973.
