'''Cooker''' may refer to several types of cooking appliances and devices used for [cooking](/source/cooking) foods.

==Types==
* [AGA cooker](/source/AGA_cooker) – a heat storage [stove](/source/stove) and cooker, which works on the principle that a heavy frame made from [cast iron](/source/cast_iron) components can absorb heat from a relatively low-intensity but continuously-burning source, and the accumulated heat can then be used when needed for cooking. Originally heated by slow-burning [coal](/source/coal), the Aga cooker was invented in 1922 by the [Nobel Prize](/source/Nobel_Prize)-winning Swedish physicist [Gustaf Dalén](/source/Gustaf_Dal%C3%A9n) (1869–1937), who was employed first as the chief engineer of the Swedish [AGA](/source/AGA_AB) company
* [[File:Iron stove.jpg|A wood-burning iron [kitchen stove](/source/kitchen_stove)|thumb]][Cook stove](/source/Improved_cookstove) – heated by burning [wood](/source/wood), [charcoal](/source/charcoal), [animal dung](/source/Feces) or [crop residue](/source/crop_residue). Cook stoves are commonly used for cooking and heating food in households that [lack access to clean, modern facilities for cooking](/source/Energy_poverty_and_cooking).
* [Electric cooker](/source/Electric_cooker) – an electric powered cooking device for heating and cooking of food
*[[File:Gas stove.jpg|A [gas stove](/source/gas_stove)|thumb|upright]] [Gas stove](/source/Gas_stove) (British English) – uses [natural gas](/source/natural_gas), [propane](/source/propane), [butane](/source/butane), [liquefied petroleum gas](/source/liquefied_petroleum_gas) or other [flammable](/source/flammable) [gas](/source/gas) as a [fuel](/source/fuel) source. Most modern stoves come in a unit with built-in [extractor hood](/source/extractor_hood)s.
* [Induction cooker](/source/Induction_cooking) – heats a [cooking vessel](/source/cooking_vessel) with [induction heating](/source/induction_heating), instead of [infrared radiation](/source/heat_transfer) from electrical wires or a gas flame as with a traditional cooking stove. For all models of induction cooktop, a cooking vessel must be made of a [ferromagnetic](/source/ferromagnetic) metal such as cast iron or stainless steel or at least compounded with a steel inlay. Copper, glass and aluminum vessels can be placed on a ferromagnetic interface disk which enables these materials to be used.
* [Kitchen stove](/source/Kitchen_stove) (British English) – a [kitchen appliance](/source/kitchen_appliance) designed for the purpose of cooking food. Kitchen stoves rely on the application of [direct heat](/source/heat_transfer) for the cooking process and may also contain an [oven](/source/oven), used for [baking](/source/baking).
* [Pressure cooker](/source/Pressure_cooker) – heats food quickly because the internal steam pressure from the boiling liquid causes [saturated steam](/source/superheated_steam) (or "wet steam") to bombard and permeate the food. Thus, higher temperature water vapour (i.e., increased energy), which transfers heat more rapidly compared to dry air, cooks food very quickly.
* [Rice cooker](/source/Rice_cooker) – also referred to as a rice steamer, is an electric [kitchen appliance](/source/kitchen_appliance) used to boil or steam [rice](/source/rice). Apart from cooking rice, there are multiple recipes cooking options in modern rice cookers such as [https://cookerhut.com/how-to-cook-lentils-in-a-rice-cooker/ cooking lentils in rice cooker] recipe, etc. Electric rice cookers were developed in Japan, where they are known as ''suihanki'' (Jap.: 炊飯器).<ref>{{cite web |url=http://ricechef.com |title=Rice Cooker Reviews |accessdate=March 17, 2016 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160310053953/http://ricechef.com/ |archivedate=March 10, 2016 |url-status=dead }}</ref>
* [Slow cooker](/source/Slow_cooker) – also known as a '''Crock-Pot''', (a trademark that is sometimes used [generically](/source/Genericized_trademark) in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), is a [countertop](/source/countertop) electrical cooking [appliance](/source/Small_appliance) that is used for [simmering](/source/simmering), which requires maintaining a relatively low temperature. It allows for the unattended cooking for many hours of [pot roast](/source/pot_roast), [stew](/source/stew)s, [soup](/source/soup)s, ["boiled" dinners](/source/boiled_dinner) and other suitable dishes, including dips, desserts and beverages.
* [Solar cooker](/source/Solar_cooker) – a device which uses the energy of direct sunlight to heat, cook or [pasteurize](/source/pasteurize) food or drink. Many solar cookers presently in use are relatively inexpensive, [low-tech](/source/low-tech) devices, although some are as powerful or as expensive as traditional stoves,<ref>{{cite web|title=Solar Cookers: Varieties and Styles|url=http://www.solarcooker-at-cantinawest.com/solarcookers-types.html|publisher=CantinaWest|accessdate=4 June 2014}}</ref> and advanced, large-scale solar cookers can cook for hundreds of people.<ref>{{cite web|title=World's Largest 38500-meal Solar Kitchen in India|url=http://inhabitat.com/world%E2%80%99s-largest-solar-kitchen-in-india-can-cook-upto-38500-meals-per-day/|publisher=inhabitat|accessdate=4 June 2014|archive-date=30 March 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190330022720/https://inhabitat.com/world%E2%80%99s-largest-solar-kitchen-in-india-can-cook-upto-38500-meals-per-day/|url-status=dead}}</ref>

==In popular culture==
The Cooker is the given name to a coin-activated robot made out of an oven and storage cabinet that patrols the moon, as seen in the 1989 [Wallace and Gromit](/source/Wallace_and_Gromit) short, ''[A Grand Day Out](/source/A_Grand_Day_Out)''. It is very protective of the moon and becomes hostile when it discovers that [Wallace and Gromit](/source/Wallace_and_Gromit) have landed there. It secretly has a lifelong dream of skiing. As well as being called The Cooker, an audio adaptation of ''A Grand Day Out'' refers to it as "The Moon Machine".{{cn|date= March 2023}}
