**Controlled image base** or CIB is un[classified](/source/Classified_information) [digital imagery](/source/Digital_image), produced to support mission planning and command, control, communications, and intelligence systems. CIB is sometimes used as a [map](/source/Map) substitute during emergencies or crises in the event that maps do not exist or are outdated. CIB is produced from SPOT [commercial](/source/Commerce) imagery that has been orthonormalized using the [National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency](/source/National_Geospatial-Intelligence_Agency) (NGA)'s DTED. CIB is [RPF](/source/Raster_Product_Format) and [NITF](/source/National_Imagery_Transmission_Format) compliant. *(Source: FAS)*
