The **Constitutional Rights Union** (CRU) ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Սահմանադրական իրավունքների միություն, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Armenian): *Sahmanadrakan iravunk’neri miut’yun*) is a [conservative](/source/Conservatism) [political party](/source/Political_party) in [Armenia](/source/Armenia).

## History

The party first participated in the [1999 Armenian parliamentary election](/source/1999_Armenian_parliamentary_election) in a newly created [political alliance](/source/Political_alliance) named the "Law and Unity Bloc". The alliance gained 7 seats in the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_(Armenia)).

The party has not participated in any recent parliamentary elections and currently has no representation in the National Assembly.

In 2020, the party endorsed the [Homeland Salvation Movement](/source/Homeland_Salvation_Movement).

In 2021, the party joined the "New Union" political alliance along with the [Voice of the Nation](/source/Voice_of_the_Nation_(Armenia)) Party and the [Towards Russia Party](/source/Towards_Russia_Party).[3]

In April 2021, the party signed a memorandum of cooperation with the [Justice](/source/Justice_(Artsakh)) party in [Artsakh](/source/Republic_of_Artsakh).[4]

## Ideology

The party opposes both [communism](/source/Communism) and [liberalism](/source/Liberalism). The goal of the party is for Armenia to become a center for collaboration among [Russia](/source/Russia), Georgia, Iran and Arab countries.[5] Babukhanyan stated that he fully supports Armenia's membership in the [Eurasian Union](/source/Eurasian_Union) and mentioned that "The Eurasian Union has outdone the [European Union](/source/European_Union) by economic indicators."[6] The party supports Armenia joining the [Union State](/source/Union_State).[7] Babukhanyan is known for his Pro-Russian stance and has even called for the [British Council](/source/British_Council) to be banned in Armenia.[8]

During the [2018 Armenian revolution](/source/2018_Armenian_revolution), Babukhanyan claimed that Foundations run by [George Soros](/source/George_Soros) had contributed to the recent unrest in Armenia.[9]
