Constitution Dock

**Constitution Dock** is the [harbour](/source/Harbour)-side [dock](/source/Dock_(maritime)) area of [Hobart](/source/Hobart), the capital city of the [Australian](/source/Australia) state of [Tasmania](/source/Tasmania), in the [Port of Hobart](/source/Port_of_Hobart), on the [River Derwent](/source/River_Derwent%2C_Tasmania).

The dock is adjacent to other Hobart landmark areas, [Victoria Dock](/source/Victoria_Dock_(Hobart)), [Salamanca Place](/source/Salamanca%2C_Tasmania) and [Battery Point](/source/Battery_Point%2C_Tasmania), and forms part of the foreshore of [Sullivans Cove](/source/Sullivans_Cove).

The dock consists of a rock-walled marina with an opening for boats. The bridge is normally closed, allowing pedestrian access around the dock. The dock is normally used by motor pleasure boats, [yachts](/source/Yachts), and fishing [boats](/source/Boat) serving the city's [fish market](/source/Fish_market) and [restaurants](/source/Restaurant), several of which are at the northern end of the dock.

Constitution Dock is famous for being the rallying point and party venue for the annual [Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race](/source/Sydney_to_Hobart_Yacht_Race), held from [Boxing Day](/source/Boxing_Day) (the day after [Christmas Day](/source/Christmas_Day)) until yachts complete their 630 nautical mile journey from [Sydney](/source/Sydney).
