# Conger Sound

**Conger Sound** (Danish: *Conger Sund*), also known as **Conger Inlet**,[1] is a [fjord](/source/Fjord) in [Peary Land](/source/Peary_Land), far northern [Greenland](/source/Greenland).[2][3]

The sound was first put on the map at the time of the [Lady Franklin Bay Expedition](/source/Lady_Franklin_Bay_Expedition) led by [Adolphus Greely](/source/Adolphus_Greely). It was named after [U.S. Senator](/source/United_States_Senate) [Omar D. Conger](/source/Omar_D._Conger), a sponsor of the venture.

## Geography

Conger Sound is a [marine channel](/source/Marine_channel) with a fjord structure, It is part of the [Weyprecht Fjord](/source/Weyprecht_Fjord) system, extending for over 22 km (14 mi) in a roughly north / south direction to the east of [Lockwood Island](/source/Lockwood_Island) and west of [Roosevelt Land](/source/Roosevelt_Land).

It opens to the frozen [Lincoln Sea](/source/Lincoln_Sea) in the north, between [Cape Kane](/source/Cape_Kane) in the east and [Cape Christiansen](/source/Cape_Christiansen) in the west. To the south it opens to the inner section of Weyprecht Fjord.[1][4]
