The '''Conception Group''' is a [geologic group](/source/Group_(geology)) in [Newfoundland and Labrador](/source/Newfoundland_and_Labrador). It preserves [fossils](/source/fossils) dating back to the [Ediacaran](/source/Ediacaran) [period](/source/Period_(geology)). It mainly contains [turbidite](/source/turbidite)s, but is interrupted by a glacial [diamictite](/source/diamictite), and tops out with sand and siltstones (these dated to 565 Ma).<ref name="Myrow1995a"/> It corresponds to the lower portion of the [Connecting Point Group](/source/Connecting_Point_Group).<ref name="King1988aAvalonMap"/>

In some areas the [Drook Formation](/source/Drook_Formation) continues from the base of the group to the base of the [Mistaken Point Formation](/source/Mistaken_Point_Formation); elsewhere (in central / south Avalon) the [Briscal](/source/Briscal_Formation), [Gaskiers](/source/Gaskiers_Formation) and [Mall Bay Formation](/source/Mall_Bay_Formation)s wedge in.<ref name="King1988aAvalonMap"/>
