**Conan Noonan** (born 17 January 2003) is an Irish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [midfielder](/source/Midfielder) for [League of Ireland Premier Division](/source/League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division) club [Waterford](/source/Waterford_F.C.).

## Club career

### Youth career

[Naas](/source/Naas), [County Kildare](/source/County_Kildare) man Noonan joined the Academy of [League of Ireland](/source/League_of_Ireland) club [Shamrock Rovers](/source/Shamrock_Rovers_F.C.) in 2018, initially playing for their under-15 side before progressing through the age groups at the club.[2]

### Shamrock Rovers

He made 3 appearances for the [Shamrock Rovers II](/source/Shamrock_Rovers_F.C._II) team in the first 3 games of their [2020 League of Ireland First Division](/source/2020_League_of_Ireland_First_Division) campaign before the season stopped due to [COVID-19](/source/COVID-19) restrictions, with his debut coming in a 2–0 loss away to [Longford Town](/source/Longford_Town_F.C.) on 22 February 2020.[3] Noonan made his first team debut for the club on 23 July 2021, replacing [Richie Towell](/source/Richie_Towell) from the bench in the 72nd minute of a 2–0 win over [Galway United](/source/Galway_United_F.C.) in the [FAI Cup](/source/FAI_Cup) at [Tallaght Stadium](/source/Tallaght_Stadium).[4] He missed out on all of 2022 after being advised by doctors not to train due to a heart condition that came as a result of [Long COVID](/source/Long_COVID), with symptoms including irregular heartbeats and dizziness.[5][6] He made his long-awaited return to first team football on 13 March 2023 in a 2–1 loss [Bray Wanderers](/source/Bray_Wanderers_F.C.) in the [Leinster Senior Cup](/source/Leinster_Senior_Cup_(association_football)) at the [Carlisle Grounds](/source/Carlisle_Grounds).[7] On 3 August 2023, he made his first appearance in European football, in a 2–0 loss at home to [Ferencváros](/source/Ferencv%C3%A1rosi_TC) in the [UEFA Europa Conference League](/source/UEFA_Europa_Conference_League).[8] He started in the [2024 President of Ireland's Cup](/source/2024_President_of_Ireland's_Cup) on 9 February 2024 in a 3–1 win over [St Patrick's Athletic](/source/St_Patrick's_Athletic_F.C.) at [Tallaght Stadium](/source/Tallaght_Stadium).[9] He made 24 appearances in all competitions in 2024.[10]

### Waterford

On 31 January 2025, Noonan joined fellow [League of Ireland Premier Division](/source/League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division) club [Waterford](/source/Waterford_F.C.) on a season long loan.[11][12][13] On 7 February 2025, he made his debut for the club, scoring once and assisting another 2 goals in a 4–2 win over [Treaty United](/source/Treaty_United_F.C.) in the [Munster Senior Cup](/source/Munster_Senior_Cup_(association_football)) at the [RSC](/source/Waterford_Regional_Sports_Centre).[14] He scored his first league goal for the club in the first game of the season on 15 February 2025, in a 3–2 win over [Sligo Rovers](/source/Sligo_Rovers_F.C.) at [The Showgrounds](/source/The_Showgrounds%2C_Sligo).[15] On 7 November 2025, he scored his side's equaliser in an eventual 2–1 win over [Bray Wanderers](/source/Bray_Wanderers_F.C.) in the [2025 League of Ireland Premier Division Promotion/Relegation Playoff](/source/2025_League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division#Promotion/Relegation_Playoff) to help the club secure their Premier Division status.[16] He scored a total of 9 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions during a hugely successful loan spell that drew reported interest in his signature on a permanent basis from [St Patrick's Athletic](/source/St_Patrick's_Athletic_F.C.) and [Sligo Rovers](/source/Sligo_Rovers_F.C.) at the end of the season.[17] On 5 December 2025, Noonan signed for [Waterford](/source/Waterford_F.C.) on a permanent basis, signing a three-year-contract for a record transfer fee for Waterford, believed to be €50,000.[18][19]

## International career

On 7 June 2024, Noonan made his international debut, replacing [Joe Hodge](/source/Joe_Hodge) for the [Republic of Ireland U21s](/source/Republic_of_Ireland_national_under-21_football_team) in the 77th minute of a 2–2 draw with [England U20](/source/England_national_under-20_football_team) in a friendly in [Zagreb](/source/Zagreb), [Croatia](/source/Croatia).[20][21]
