{{Short description|Where tectonic plates meet at a convergent boundary}}
A ''' collision zone''' occurs when [tectonic plate](/source/tectonic_plate)s meet at a [convergent boundary](/source/convergent_boundary) both bearing [continental lithosphere](/source/continental_lithosphere). As continental [lithosphere](/source/lithosphere) is usually not [subducted](/source/subduction) due to its relatively low density, the result is a complex area of [orogeny](/source/orogeny) involving [folding](/source/Fold_(geology)) and [thrust fault](/source/thrust_fault)ing as the blocks of continental crust ''pile up'' above the subduction zone. This includes the [Eastern Anatolia](/source/Eastern_Anatolia)n collision zone<ref>R Gök, R., et al. ''Lithospheric structure of the continent–continent collision zone: eastern Turkey,'' [Geophysical Journal International](/source/Geophysical_Journal_International), 2007, Volume 169, Issue 3, Pages 789–1378</ref> and [Banda Arc](/source/Banda_Arc)–Australian collision zone.<ref>Karig, Daniel E., et al., ''Nature and distribution of deformation across the Banda Arc–Australian collision zone at Timor,'' GSA Bulletin; January 1987; v. 98; no. 1; pp. 18–32</ref>
