**Collene Lamonte** is a [Democratic](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) politician from [Michigan](/source/Michigan) who served in the [Michigan House of Representatives](/source/Michigan_House_of_Representatives).

Prior to her election to the legislature, Lamonte was a high school math and science teacher for the Muskegon Public Schools.[1]

In [2014](/source/2014_Michigan_House_of_Representatives_election), she lost her re-election bid to [Holly Hughes](/source/Holly_Hughes_(politician)), whom she had defeated in [2012](/source/2012_Michigan_House_of_Representatives_election), by only 58 votes.[2] They faced each other again in [2016](/source/2016_Michigan_House_of_Representatives_election) with Hughes winning by an increased margin.

In [2018](/source/2018_Michigan_Senate_election) she ran for the open [34th Senate seat](/source/Michigan's_34th_Senate_district), however she was upset in the Democratic primary by first time candidate Poppy Sias-Hernandez. Coincidentally, her old rival Hughes also lost in the primary for the same seat.
