# Colina, Chile

**Colina** is a [Chilean](/source/Chile) [city](/source/List_of_cities_in_Chile) and [commune](/source/Communes_of_Chile), [capital](/source/Capital_(political)) of the [Chacabuco Province](/source/Chacabuco_Province), in the northern part of the [Santiago Metropolitan Region](/source/Santiago_Metropolitan_Region), approximately 30 kilometers north of Santiago Centro.

## Demographics

According to the 2002 [census](/source/Census) of the [National Statistics Institute](/source/National_Statistics_Institute_(Chile)), Colina spans an area of 52,769 km2 (20,374 sq mi) and has 77,815 inhabitants (41,004 men and 36,811 women). Of these, 62,811 (80.7%) lived in [urban areas](/source/Urban_area) and 15,004 (19.3%) in [rural areas](/source/Rural_area). The population grew by 47.5% (25,046 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses.[3] Average household income: US$19,783 (PPP, 2006).[citation needed]

## Administration

As a [commune](/source/Communes_of_Chile), Colina is a third-level [administrative division of Chile](/source/Administrative_division_of_Chile) administered by a [municipal council](/source/Municipal_council), headed by an [alcalde](/source/Alcalde) who is directly elected every four years. The 2012-2016 alcalde is Mario Olavarría Rodríguez ([UDI](/source/Independent_Democratic_Union)).[4] The communal council has the following members:

- Gonzalo Torres Ferrari ([RN](/source/National_Renewal_(Chile)))
- [Alejandra Bravo Hidalgo](/source/Alejandra_Bravo_Hidalgo) ([PRI](/source/Independent_Regionalist_Party))
- Andrés Vásquez Medina ([PDC](/source/Christian_Democratic_Party_(Chile)))
- Máximo Larraín Geisse ([UDI](/source/Independent_Democratic_Union))
- Jorge Boher Ferrada ([UDI](/source/Independent_Democratic_Union))
- Pablo Atenas Valenzuela ([PDC](/source/Christian_Democratic_Party_(Chile)))

The regional [intendant](/source/Intendant), appointed by the [president](/source/President_of_Chile), is Fernando Echeverría.[5] Belonging to Province of Chacabuco, whose actual governor is Mrs. Angélica Antimán.

Within the [electoral divisions of Chile](/source/Electoral_divisions_of_Chile), Colina is represented in the [Chamber of Deputies](/source/Chamber_of_Deputies_of_Chile) by Mr. Patricio Melero ([UDI](/source/Independent_Democratic_Union)) and Mr. Gabriel Silber ([PDC](/source/Christian_Democratic_Party)) as part of the 16th electoral district (together with [Lampa](/source/Lampa,_Chile), [Tiltil](/source/Tiltil), [Quilicura](/source/Quilicura) and [Pudahuel](/source/Pudahuel)). The commune is represented in the [Senate](/source/Senate_of_Chile) by Guido Girardi Lavín ([PPD](/source/Party_for_Democracy_(Chile))) and Jovino Novoa Vásquez (UDI) as part of the 7th senatorial constituency (Santiago-West).

## Education

The Chamisero campus of the *[Lycée Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry de Santiago](/source/Lyc%C3%A9e_Antoine-de-Saint-Exup%C3%A9ry_de_Santiago)* is in Colina.[6] The campus officially opened on May 21, 2013 although the *maternelle* (kindergarten) opened in February of that year.[7]
