# Colin Isaacs

**Colin Francis Weeber Isaacs** (born 3rd quarter 1948) is a former politician in [Ontario](/source/Ontario), Canada. He was a [New Democratic Party](/source/Ontario_New_Democratic_Party) member in the [Legislative Assembly of Ontario](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Ontario) representing the riding of [Wentworth](/source/Wentworth_(provincial_electoral_district)) from 1979 to 1981. He works as an [environmental consultant](/source/Environmental_consulting) and journalist and publishes the Gallon Newsletter.

## Early life

He was born in [New Malden](/source/New_Malden), [Surrey](/source/Surrey), [England](/source/England) and was educated at the [University of London](/source/University_of_London) and the [University of Western Ontario](/source/University_of_Western_Ontario). Isaacs served on the town council for [Stoney Creek](/source/Stoney_Creek,_Ontario).

## Politics

He ran for the provincial legislature in a [by-election](/source/By-election) for the riding of [Wentworth](/source/Wentworth_(provincial_electoral_district)) held on April 5, 1979. He won the contest defeating [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Ontario) candidate [Gordon Dean](/source/Gordon_Howlett_Dean) by 543 votes.[1] Two years later, he was defeated by Dean by 160 votes in the [1981 provincial election](/source/1981_Ontario_general_election).[2]

## Later life

He was a director of the Recycling Council of [Ontario](/source/Ontario) and executive director for the Pollution Probe Foundation.[3] Isaacs was environmental columnist for the *[Financial Post](/source/Financial_Post)* from 1990 to 1994. He publishes and edits the Gallon Environment Letter, an electronic newsletter addressing environmental issues.[4]
