He represented [North Vancouver-Seymour](/source/North_Vancouver-Seymour) from 1972 to 1975 and [North Island](/source/North_Island_(provincial_electoral_district)) from 1979 to 1996 in the [Legislative Assembly of British Columbia](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_British_Columbia) as a [New Democratic Party](/source/British_Columbia_New_Democratic_Party) (NDP) member.

He was born in [London](/source/London), [England](/source/England), the son of Honora Elsie Puddifoot and Fritz Gabelmann and was educated at the [University of British Columbia](/source/University_of_British_Columbia). Gabelmann married  Robin Geary. He lived in [Campbell River, British Columbia](/source/Campbell_River%2C_British_Columbia).
