==Early life and career==
Farr was born the youngest son of (Anglican) Rev. [George Henry Farr](/source/George_Henry_Farr) and [Julia Warren Farr](/source/Julia_Warren_Farr) on 22 May 1866. George (later titled Canon Farr) was first headmaster of the [Collegiate School of St Peter](/source/St_Peter's_College%2C_Adelaide) in [Adelaide](/source/Adelaide), [South Australia](/source/South_Australia). Farr tutored at Sydney and then Adelaide from 1893 to 1896, when he was appointed lecturer in mathematics and physics at [Lincoln Agricultural College](/source/Lincoln_Agricultural_College) near [Christchurch](/source/Christchurch), New Zealand. As lecturer in physics and surveying at [Canterbury College, Christchurch](/source/Canterbury_College%2C_Christchurch) Farr was a member of the [1907 Sub-Antarctic Islands Scientific Expedition](/source/1907_Sub-Antarctic_Islands_Scientific_Expedition).<ref name="DNZB Farr">{{DNZB|Campbell|John|4f5|Clinton Coleridge Farr|1 December 2011}}</ref> He was created Professor of Physics at Canterbury College in 1911.<ref name= RS/>

In 1919 he was elected as one of the inaugural fellows of the New Zealand Institute (the organisation has, since 2007, been known as [Royal Society Te Apārangi](/source/Royal_Society_Te_Ap%C4%81rangi)), winning their [Hector Medal](/source/Hector_Medal) in 1922 and serving as their president from 1929 to May 1931 (when he was succeeded by [Hugh Segar](/source/Hugh_Segar)<ref>{{cite news |title=Personal |url=https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/AS19310523.2.28 |access-date=1 February 2021 |work=[Auckland Star](/source/Auckland_Star) |volume=LXII |issue=120 |date=23 May 1931 |page=6}}</ref>). ==Family and death==
In 1903, he married Maud Ellen Haydon; they had one son. He retired in 1936 and died in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 27 January 1943.<ref name= ADB/>
