Classical Greece vase painter

The **Codrus Painter** was a [Greek](/source/Greeks) [vase](/source/Vase)-painter of the [Attic](/source/Attica) [red-figure style](/source/Red-figure_pottery), who flourished between 440 and 420 BC.[1] His actual name is unknown and his conventional name is derived from his name-vase, now in [Bologna](/source/Bologna), which depicts the mythical Athenian king, [Codrus](/source/Codrus).[2] He is most famous for his red-figure [kylix](/source/Kylix_(drinking_cup)) showing the deeds of [Theseus](/source/Theseus), now in the [British Museum](/source/British_Museum).[3] Stylistically the Codrus Painter is close to the [Aison](/source/Aison) and the [Eretria Painter](/source/Eretria_Painter), and his vases have been found in three tombs with these artists.[4]
