{{Short description|Literature that intermixes notions of classical poetry and computer code}}

'''Code poetry''' is [literature](/source/literature) that intermixes notions of classical [poetry](/source/poetry) and [source code](/source/source_code). Unlike [digital poetry](/source/digital_poetry), which prominently uses physical [computers](/source/computers), code poems may or may not run through [executable binaries](/source/executable). A code poem may be interactive or static, digital or analog. Code poems can be performed by computers or humans through spoken word and written text.

Examples of code poetry include: poems written in a [programming language](/source/programming_language), but human readable as poetry; computer code expressed poetically, that is, playful with sound, terseness, or beauty.

A variety of events and websites allow the general public to present or publish code poetry, including [Stanford University](/source/Stanford_University)'s Code [Poetry Slam](/source/Poetry_Slam),<ref>{{Cite web|title=Algorithms meet art at Code Poetry Slam held at Stanford|url=https://engineering.stanford.edu/news/algorithms-meet-art-code-poetry-slam-held-stanford|last=Davenport|first=Matt|date=2016-06-09|website=Stanford School of Engineering|language=en|access-date=2020-05-21}}</ref> the PerlMonks Perl Poetry Page,<ref>{{Cite book |last=Funkhouser |first=C.
