# Coco Ferrer

**Efigenio Ferrer Cabrera** (January 1, 1915 – August 17, 1963), nicknamed "**Coco**" and "**Al**", was a Puerto Rican [Negro league](/source/Negro_league) [shortstop](/source/Shortstop) who played in the 1940s.

A native of [Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico](/source/Juana_D%C3%ADaz,_Puerto_Rico), Ferrer played for the [Puerto Rico national baseball team](/source/Puerto_Rico_national_baseball_team) in the [1938 Central American and Caribbean Games](/source/1938_Central_American_and_Caribbean_Games).[citation needed] He made his Negro leagues debut in 1946 with the [Indianapolis Clowns](/source/Indianapolis_Clowns), and played three seasons for Indianapolis before going on to play for the [Chicago American Giants](/source/Chicago_American_Giants) in 1951.[1][2][3] Ferrer died in [Ponce, Puerto Rico](/source/Ponce,_Puerto_Rico) in 1963 at age 48.
