==Description==
thumb|240px|left|Female of ''Clytra quadripunctata'' laying eggs
''Clytra quadripunctata'' can reach a body length of about {{cvt|8|-|10|mm}}. These beetles show 4 black spots on the yellow-red wing covers. This species is very similar to '' [Clytra laeviuscula](/source/Clytra_laeviuscula)'', but Clytra quadripunctata has rounded and smaller posterior spots on the elytra.

The main criterion for distinguishing the two species is located in the center of the pronotum: it is regularly punctate in Clytra quadripunctata and not shiny, but smooth and shiny in Clytra laeviuscula.

==Biology==
Adults can be found from April to the end of August.<ref>[https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/466055-Clytra-quadripunctata iNatutalist]</ref> This species of beetle is common in the spring on the flowering blackberry bushes and consumes the fruit. They feed on the leaves of various [plant](/source/plant)s, including: ''[Dactylis glomerata](/source/Dactylis_glomerata)'', ''[Pteridium aquilinum](/source/Pteridium_aquilinum)'', hawthorn (''[Crataegus](/source/Crataegus)''), [blackthorn](/source/Prunus_spinosa) (''Prunus''), [willow](/source/willow) (''Salix''), [birch](/source/birch) (''Betula'') and [oak](/source/oak) (''Quercus'').<ref name=brc>[http://www.brc.ac.uk/dbif/invertebratesresults.aspx?insectid=2162 Database of Insects and their Food Plants]</ref> These beetles lives near wood ants (genus [Formica](/source/Formica)). The larvae develop in the nests of these ants.<ref>Michael Chinery - Insectes de France et d'Europe occidentale, Paris, Groupe Flammarion (2012), pg. 282-283 (ISBN 978-2-08-128823-2 {{in lang|fr}})</ref>
