# ClubCorp

**ClubCorp** (formerly **ClubCorp Holdings, Inc**) is an American corporation based in [Dallas](/source/Dallas).[1] It owns and operates more than 200 golf country clubs, businesses, [sports](/source/Sports_club) and [alumni](/source/Alumni_association) clubs worldwide. Located in 26 states, the [District of Columbia](/source/Washington,_D.C.), and 2 countries outside of the United States ([Mexico](/source/Mexico) and [China](/source/China)), the company and its clubs have more than 430,000 members and employ around 20,000 people.[2]

## History

The company was founded by the late [Robert H. Dedman, Sr.](/source/Robert_H._Dedman,_Sr.) (1926-2002) as Country Club, Inc., later renamed ClubCorp.[3][4] His son, [Robert H. Dedman, Jr.](/source/Robert_H._Dedman,_Jr.), became president in 1989 and [CEO](/source/CEO) in 1998.[5] His daughter, Patty Dedman Dietz, was previously on its board of directors.[5] In 2002, its CEO was John A. Beckert.[6] Private equity firm KSL Capital Partners bought the company in 2006.[6] ClubCorp Holdings, Inc. went public in 2013 and was traded on the [New York Stock Exchange](/source/New_York_Stock_Exchange) under the symbol MYCC until 2017 when the company was acquired by [Apollo Global Management](/source/Apollo_Global_Management).[7][8]

Eric L. Affeldt is a former CEO of the company.[9][10] [*Golf* magazine](/source/Golf_Magazine) named him the most powerful person in golf in 2010[11] and 2014.[12]

In 1981, ClubCorp acquired Firestone Country Club in Akron, OH, and in 1984, bought golf courses, hotels, etc, in [Pinehurst, North Carolina](/source/Pinehurst,_North_Carolina). ClubCorp also bought the [Mission Hills Country Club](/source/Mission_Hills_Country_Club), [Indian Wells Country Club](/source/Indian_Wells_Country_Club), [Gleneagles Country Club](/source/Gleneagles_Country_Club), [Stonebriar Country Club](/source/Stonebriar_Country_Club), and the [Las Colinas Country Club](/source/Las_Colinas_Country_Club).[5][6] Others include [The Homestead](/source/The_Homestead_(Hot_Springs,_Virginia)) in 1993, [Barton Creek, Austin, Texas](/source/Barton_Creek,_Austin,_Texas) and [Daufuskie Island](/source/Daufuskie_Island). In 1998, ClubCorp entered into an agreement for Golden Bear International, [Jack Nicklaus](/source/Jack_Nicklaus)'s company, to design 36 new golf courses, co-owned and operated by ClubCorp.[5]

ClubCorp hired David Pillsbury as the new CEO in June 2018 [13]

## *Private Clubs magazine*

In 1986, ClubCorp began publishing its own travel and lifestyle magazine, *Private Clubs*. The magazine was an award winner in one of the contests in the magazine industry, the FOLIO: Awards.[14] By 2020, *Private Clubs* had transitioned into a digital-only publication and changed its name to *ClubLife.*[15]
