**Clive Gates** (born 11 March 1956, [Westminster](/source/Westminster), [London](/source/London))[1] is a British musician who was the [keyboardist](/source/Keyboardist) and [synthesizer](/source/Synthesizer) player of the [synthpop](/source/Synthpop) [band](/source/Musical_ensemble) [New Musik](/source/New_Musik) from 1979 until 1982, replacing original member [Nick Straker](/source/Nick_Straker) who left to form the [Nick Straker Band](/source/Nick_Straker_Band). Gates remained as a member of the New Musik until they split up.

Gates is a [classically](/source/Classical_music) trained [pianist](/source/Piano). He knew [Tony Mansfield](/source/Tony_Mansfield) in 1972, performing with him in a [T. Rex](/source/T._Rex_(band)) and [King Crimson](/source/King_Crimson) oriented band called Reeman Zeegus.[1]

He also played [keyboards](/source/Keyboard_instrument) on [Miguel Bosé](/source/Miguel_Bos%C3%A9)'s 1987 [album](/source/Album), *XXX*, and for [Silent Running](/source/Silent_Running_(band)) on the album *[Deep](/source/Deep_(Silent_Running_album))* (1989) and on [Ana Torroja](/source/Ana_Torroja)'s *Puntos Cardinales* album (1997).
