The [family](/source/Taxonomic_rank) '''Cliidae''' is a [taxonomic](/source/Taxonomy_(biology)) group of small floating [sea snail](/source/sea_snail)s, [pelagic](/source/pelagic) [marine](/source/marine_(ocean)) [opisthobranch](/source/opisthobranch) [gastropod](/source/gastropod) [mollusc](/source/mollusc)s.<ref name="WoRMS">Bouchet, P. This family name has for a long time been known as Clioidae, or the subfamily Clioinae <small>Jeffreys, 1869</small> belonging to the family [Cavoliniidae](/source/Cavoliniidae), each time with the type genus ''[Clio](/source/Clio_(gastropod))'' <small>Linnaeus, 1767</small>. Unfortunately this is often confused with another molluscan family [Clionidae](/source/Clionidae), which has the type genus ''Clione''. The [International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature](/source/International_Commission_on_Zoological_Nomenclature) (ICZN) has therefore changed the name back to its original spelling Cliidae <small>Jeffreys, 1869</small>, type genus ''Clio'' Linnaeus, 1767<ref name="Cliidae">{{cite journal|author=International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature |title=Comments |journal=Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature |date=30 September 2004 |volume=61 |issue=3 |url=http://www.iczn.org/BZNSeptember2004comments.htm |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20060328001344/http://www.iczn.org/BZNSeptember2004comments.htm |archivedate=March 28, 2006 }}</ref>
