He was born in [Bârlad](/source/B%C3%A2rlad), [Vaslui County](/source/Vaslui_County),<ref name="gen"/> the son of Profira Moțoc and Doctor Cleante Davidoglu. ===Hotin uprising===
In October 1918, [Prime Minister](/source/Prime_Minister_of_Romania) [Alexandru Marghiloman](/source/Alexandru_Marghiloman) ordered the Romanian Army to take control of [Bukovina](/source/Bukovina) and [Hotin](/source/Khotyn), in the far-northern tip of [Bessarabia](/source/Bessarabia). The 1st Cavalry Division soon moved into the region; it was spearheaded by the 3rd Redcoats Regiment and the 40th Infantry Regiment, both of which were placed under the command of General Davidoglu.<ref>{{cite journal|first=Ion|last= Giurcă|title=Ofițeri englezi implicați în evenimentele de la Hotin din ianuarie 1919|journal=Document. On January 19 [Podolian](/source/Podolian_Governorate) irregulars crossed into [Hotin County](/source/Hotin_County) at [Atachi](/source/Ataky), disarming Romanian border guards and moving in on [Soroca](/source/Soroca); on January 23, after reaching [Secureni](/source/Sokyriany), rebellion erupted in Hotin itself, chasing out the Romanian garrison.
