# Clare Rustad

**Clare Ada Rustad** (born May 27, 1983) is a Canadian broadcaster and former [soccer](/source/Association_football) [midfielder](/source/Midfielder). Her last club was the [Toronto Lady Lynx](/source/Toronto_Lady_Lynx) in 2010. She played for [Canada women's national soccer team](/source/Canada_women's_national_soccer_team) between 2000 and 2008, making 45 appearances and scoring three goals.

## Playing career

### Club

Rustad played collegiate soccer for the [University of Washington](/source/Washington_Huskies_women's_soccer) between 2001 and 2004, and professionally for [Vancouver Whitecaps FC](/source/Vancouver_Whitecaps_FC_(women)). She is a distinguished alumnus of Gordon Head Soccer Association.

### International

Rustad competed for the Canada national under-19 soccer team at the [2002 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship](/source/2002_FIFA_U-19_Women's_World_Championship), winning the silver medal.[2] She made her international debut for Canada on June 26, 2000 against [China](/source/China_women's_national_football_team) in the [2000 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup](/source/2000_CONCACAF_Women's_Gold_Cup). Rustad scored her first goal for the senior team on September 4, 2003 in a 6-0 friendly win over [Mexico](/source/Mexico_women's_national_football_team).[3] She last represented Canada at the [2008 Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_tournament) in [Beijing](/source/Beijing), reaching the quarterfinals and retiring from international football afterwards.[2]

## Broadcasting career

Rustad has served as a soccer analyst on [CBC](/source/CBC_Television), [TSN](/source/The_Sports_Network) and [Sportsnet](/source/Sportsnet) for events including the Pan Am Games, the FIFA Women's World Cup, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.[4] Rustad was the colour commentator at the [2024 Paris Olympics](/source/2024_Summer_Olympics) for the CBC.

## Personal life

Rustad grew up on [Saltspring Island](/source/Saltspring_Island) in [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia). She began medical school at the [University of Toronto](/source/University_of_Toronto) in 2008 and graduated in 2012. She has a [molecular biology](/source/Molecular_biology) degree from the [University of Washington](/source/University_of_Washington) and a master's degree in [epidemiology](/source/Epidemiology) from the [University of Cambridge](/source/University_of_Cambridge). Dr. Rustad is currently a family doctor on Saltspring Island.[5] In March 2013, Rustad joined the National Organizing Committee for the [2015 FIFA Women's World Cup](/source/2015_FIFA_Women's_World_Cup) held in Canada.[2]
