==Etymology==
Clanmahon takes its name from the Irish Clann Mathúna, originally Cloinne Mathghamhna, "Mathgamhain's tribe," the ruling [Gaelic Irish](/source/Gaelic_Irish) dynasty in the area in the Middle Ages.
