***City of Song***, also known as ***Farewell to Love***, is a 1931 British/German [romance film](/source/Romance_film) directed by [Carmine Gallone](/source/Carmine_Gallone) and starring [Jan Kiepura](/source/Jan_Kiepura), [Betty Stockfeld](/source/Betty_Stockfeld) and [Hugh Wakefield](/source/Hugh_Wakefield).[1] It was shot at [Wembley Studios](/source/Wembley_Studios).[2] The film's sets were designed by the [art directors](/source/Art_director) [Oscar Friedrich Werndorff](/source/Oscar_Friedrich_Werndorff) and [J. Elder Wills](/source/J._Elder_Wills). A German-language version was released in 1930 under the title *[The Singing City](/source/The_Singing_City)*.

## Plot

A tourist guide in [Naples](/source/Naples) is taken on by an English woman impressed by his singing, and who regards him as her [protégé](/source/Prot%C3%A9g%C3%A9).
