The '''citrange''' (a [portmanteau](/source/portmanteau) of ''citrus'' and ''orange'') is a [citrus hybrid](/source/citrus_hybrid) of the [sweet orange](/source/sweet_orange) and the [trifoliate orange](/source/trifoliate_orange).

The purpose of this cross was to attempt to create a [cold hardy citrus](/source/cold_hardy_citrus) tree (which is the nature of a trifoliate), with delicious fruit like those of the sweet orange. However, citranges are generally bitter.

Citrange is used as a [rootstock for citrus](/source/citrus_rootstock) in [Morocco](/source/Morocco), but does not prevent dry root rot or [exocortis disease](/source/Citrus_exocortis).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.horticom.com/pd/imagenes/54/422/54422.html |title=Current Situatuon of citriculture in Marocco |work=HORTICOM NEWS |author=Ediciones de Horticultura, S.L. |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20141006103510/http://www.horticom.com/pd/imagenes/54/422/54422.html |archivedate=October 6, 2014 }}</ref>

== Cultivars ==
There are several named citrange [cultivar](/source/cultivar)s,<ref>{{citation |chapter-url=http://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/trifoliatehybrids.html |chapter= Trifoliate hybrids |title=University of California at Riverside, Citrus Variety Collection |accessdate=20 November 2016}}</ref> including the 'Carrizo' citrange<ref>{{citation |chapter-url=http://www.citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/carrizo.html |chapter=Carrizo citrange trifoliate hybid |title=University of California at Riverside, Citrus Variety Collection |accessdate=20 November 2016}}</ref> and the 'Troyer' citrange.<ref>{{citation |chapter-url=http://www.citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/troyer.html |title=University of California at Riverside, Citrus Variety Collection |chapter=Troyer citrange |accessdate=20 November 2016}}</ref> Both resulted from a hybrid between the [trifoliate orange](/source/trifoliate_orange) and the Washington [navel orange](/source/navel_orange). There is also a cultivar called 'Rusk' which resulted from a cross between a Ruby orange and a trifoliate orange.<ref>[http://websites.lib.ucr.edu/agnic/webber/Vol1/Chapter4.html#trifoliate The Citrus Industry Book, Volume I] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120205061009/http://websites.lib.ucr.edu/agnic/webber/Vol1/Chapter4.html |date=2012-02-05 }}</ref><ref>{{citation |chapter-url=http://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/rusk_1441.html |title=University of California at Riverside, Citrus Variety Collection |chapter=Rusk citrange (CRC 1441) |accessdate=20 November 2016}}</ref>
