# Cine Callao

**Cine Callao** is a building located in [Plaza de Callao](/source/Callao_Square) in [Madrid](/source/Madrid). It is a common venue for film premieres and press screenings.[1][2]

Designed by [Luis Gutiérrez Soto](/source/Luis_Guti%C3%A9rrez_Soto), the facade features elements inspired by the [Art Deco](/source/Art_Deco).[3] The building was inaugurated on 11 December 1926.[4][5] On 13 June 1929, it hosted the first screening in Spain of a film featuring synchronized speech, *[The Jazz Singer](/source/The_Jazz_Singer)*.[1] In the 1970s, its basement housed the 'Xenon' discotheque.[5] As of 2018, the building contained 2 film screens.[5] It also features two large screens on its facade.[1]
