**Cian Mulligan** ([/ˈkiːən/](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English) [*KEE-ən*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Pronunciation_respelling_key), Irish: [\[ˈciənˠ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Irish); born 4 March 1996) is an Irish [Gaelic footballer](/source/Gaelic_football) who plays for [Gaoth Dobhair](/source/CLG_Ghaoth_Dobhair) and the [Donegal county team](/source/Donegal_county_football_team).

He scored two goals in the [2018 Ulster Senior Football Championship](/source/2018_Ulster_Senior_Football_Championship), a competition which his county team won. He also scored a goal in the [2018 Ulster Senior Club Football Championship](/source/2018_Ulster_Senior_Club_Football_Championship), a competition which his club won.

## Playing career

### Club

Mulligan won a [Donegal Senior Football Championship](/source/Donegal_Senior_Football_Championship) medal with his club in [2018](/source/2018_Donegal_Senior_Football_Championship), scoring three points in the final.[1]

He then played during Gaoth Dobhair's first ever [Ulster Senior Club Football Championship](/source/Ulster_Senior_Club_Football_Championship)-winning campaign later in [2018](/source/2018_Ulster_Senior_Club_Football_Championship), a run which involved a quarter final defeat of [Cargin](/source/Erin's_Own_GAC%2C_Cargin) (a game in which Mulligan scored a goal and a point),[2] a semi-final defeat of eleven-time winners [Crossmaglen Rangers](/source/Crossmaglen_Rangers_GAC) (a game in which Mulligan scored a point),[3] and culminated in the club defeating [Scotstown](/source/Scotstown_GAA) (who had won the competition on four previous occasions), the last two of these games occurring at [Healy Park](/source/Healy_Park) in [Omagh](/source/Omagh). Mulligan scored a point in the Ulster final, vital as the sides were separated by one point in the end, following [extra time](/source/Overtime_(sports)).[4]

### Inter-county

Mulligan won the 2014 [Ulster Minor Football Championship](/source/Ulster_Minor_Football_Championship) title with Donegal; they defeated [Armagh](/source/Armagh_county_football_team) in the final.[5] He played in the [2014 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship](/source/2014_All-Ireland_Minor_Football_Championship) final loss to Kerry, scoring one point.[6]

He made a substitute appearance in the 2015 [Ulster Under-21 Football Championship](/source/Ulster_Under-21_Football_Championship) final loss to [Tyrone](/source/Tyrone_county_football_team).[7]

First featuring at senior level for his county under the management of [Rory Gallagher](/source/Rory_Gallagher_(Gaelic_footballer)), Mulligan started against [Monaghan](/source/Monaghan_county_football_team) and against [Mayo](/source/Mayo_county_football_team) during Donegal's Division One campaign in the [2017 National Football League](/source/2017_National_Football_League_(Ireland)).[8][9]

Under the management of [Declan Bonner](/source/Declan_Bonner), Mulligan made a substitute appearance against [Cavan](/source/Cavan_county_football_team) in the preliminary round of the [2018 Ulster Senior Football Championship](/source/2018_Ulster_Senior_Football_Championship), scoring a goal as his county progressed to the quarter-final.[10] He made another substitute appearance against [Derry](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Derry_county_footballl_team&action=edit&redlink=1) in that quarter-final, scoring another goal as his county progressed to the semi-final.[11] He made another substitute appearance in the final and scored a point to help Donegal to victory.[12]

He opted out of inter-county football for the [2019 season](/source/2019_Donegal_county_football_team_season) but returned ahead of the [2020 season](/source/2020_Donegal_county_football_team_season).[13]

He was not part of the panel during the [2022 season](/source/2022_Donegal_county_football_team_season).[14]
