***Churchman*** is an [evangelical Anglican](/source/Evangelical_Anglican) academic journal published by the [Church Society](/source/Church_Society). It was formerly known as ***The Churchman*** and started in 1880 as a monthly periodical before moving to quarterly publication in 1920.[1] The name change to "Churchman" came in 1977.[2] The [editor-in-chief](/source/Editor-in-chief) is [Peter Jensen](/source/Peter_Jensen_(bishop)). In September 2020 the journal was re-named ***The Global Anglican***.[3]

Early editors included Walter Purton (1880–92), [William McDonald Sinclair](/source/William_Sinclair_(son)) (1892–1901), [Augustus Robert Buckland](/source/Augustus_Robert_Buckland) (1901–02), [Henry Wace](/source/Henry_Wace_(priest)) (1902–05), [William Griffith Thomas](/source/William_Griffith_Thomas) (1905–10) and [Guy Warman](/source/Guy_Warman), jointly, from 1910 to 1914.[4] Other editors include [Frank Colquhoun](/source/Frank_Colquhoun) and [Gerald Bray](/source/Gerald_Bray).[4]

Contributors to *Churchman* have included: [J. C. Ryle](/source/J._C._Ryle), [J. Stafford Wright](/source/J._Stafford_Wright), C. Sydney Carter, [Geoffrey W. Bromiley](/source/Geoffrey_W._Bromiley), [Philip Edgecumbe Hughes](/source/Philip_Edgecumbe_Hughes), Arthur Pollard, [J. I. Packer](/source/J._I._Packer), Alan Stibbs, [John Stott](/source/John_Stott), [Roger Beckwith](/source/Roger_T._Beckwith), [J. A. Motyer](/source/J._A._Motyer),[5] and [Jane Marsh Parker](/source/Jane_Marsh_Parker).[6] Among contributors have been Mary Strong, who in her introduction to "Letter of the Scattered Brotherhood" state she submitted and were published in *The Churchman* across a span of 14 years letters and writings from anonymous writings of genuine religious experience. These were later published in a collection: "Letters of the Scattered Brotherhood", 1948, New York, Harper & Row. The copyright continues.
