The '''Church Building''' is located at the corner of Main and Market Streets in downtown [Poughkeepsie](/source/Poughkeepsie%2C_New_York), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)), United States, just across Market Street from the [Dutchess County Court House](/source/Dutchess_County_Court_House), and north of the [Bardavon Theater](/source/Bardavon_1869_Opera_House). It is a complex of stores and other commercial space, so named because it is owned by the [Reformed Dutch Church of Poughkeepsie](/source/Reformed_Dutch_Church_of_Poughkeepsie), which has owned the land since 1717 and benefits from the [rent](/source/renting)al income.<ref name="NRHP nom" /> It was the western anchor of [Main Mall](/source/Main_Mall), the city's former [pedestrian mall](/source/pedestrian_mall).

It is considered the best example of [Art Deco](/source/Art_Deco) architecture in the city, where most commercial buildings predate the style's popularity in the 1930s. The two-story building has tilework designs suggesting [Native American](/source/Native_Americans_in_the_United_States) aesthetics. Other [ornamental](/source/ornament_(architecture)) touches associated with Art Deco include, floral and patterned [metalwork](/source/metalwork) along the shop [cornice](/source/cornice)s, and polished green and black [marble](/source/marble) inside. There are also ribbed [pilaster](/source/pilaster)s between the windows and a multicolored [chevron](/source/Chevron_(insignia)) pattern above and below the roof [parapet](/source/parapet)s.<ref name="NRHP nom" />

The interior is intact, although some of the offices and shops have been modernized. One of the former does remain in its original condition.<ref name="NRHP nom" /> The building was added to the [National Register of Historic Places](/source/National_Register_of_Historic_Places) in 1982.
