Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise): [Chiang Yuen](/source/Chiang_Yuen_district) of Maha Sarakham Province; [Sam Sung](/source/Sam_Sung_district) and [Kranuan](/source/Kranuan_district) of [Khon Kaen province](/source/Khon_Kaen_province); [Huai Mek](/source/Huai_Mek_district) and [Yang Talat](/source/Yang_Talat_district) of [Kalasin province](/source/Kalasin_province).
