== History ==

The Chuckles brand was first produced in 1921 by Fred W. Amend. The only factory was in [Danville, Illinois](/source/Danville%2C_Illinois). [Nabisco](/source/Nabisco) bought the Chuckles Company in 1970. A management buyout occurred in 1986, and the company was quickly acquired by [Leaf](/source/Leaf_International). Leaf's US properties were sold to [The Hershey Company](/source/The_Hershey_Company) in 1996 and the Chuckles trademark was licensed to Hershey. Hershey sub-licensed Chuckles to [Farley's & Sathers](/source/Farley's_%26_Sathers_Candy_Company) in 2002, which later merged with Ferrara Pan in 2012 (also owned by [Catterton Partners](/source/Catterton_Partners)), forming the [Ferrara Candy Company](/source/Farley's_%26_Sathers_Candy_Company). The Chuckles trademark is currently owned by Iconic IP Interests, LLC.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Pollard|first1=Garland|title=Chuckles Candy Still a Pectin-Packed Package|url=http://www.brandlandusa.com/2012/07/14/chuckles-candy-still-a-pectin-packed-package/|website=BrandlandUSA|publisher=BrandlandUSA|accessdate=April 20, 2015|date=July 14, 2012}}</ref>

From 1974 to 1975, Chuckles sponsored [stuntman](/source/stuntman) [Evel Knievel](/source/Evel_Knievel).<ref name="evel">{{cite web |title=An Evel "Knievel" Partnership to Chuckle About |url=https://www.candyfavorites.com/an-evil-partnership-to-chuckle-about |website=Candy Favorites |access-date=4 June 2024}}</ref>
