# Chrysopsis

***Chrysopsis*** (**golden asters**) are plants in the family [Asteraceae](/source/Asteraceae) native to the southern and eastern [United States](/source/United_States). All the species are found in [Florida](/source/Florida), although some are found in other states as well.[1][2][3]

These are annual and perennial herbs bearing daisy-like [flower heads](/source/Flower_heads) with yellow [disc florets](/source/Disc_floret) and usually yellow [ray florets](/source/Ray_florets). Some species formerly classified in this genus are now included in other genera: *[Heterotheca](/source/Heterotheca)*, *[Pityopsis](/source/Pityopsis)*, *[Stenotus](/source/Stenotus_(plant))*, *[Ionactis](/source/Ionactis)*, *[Aster](/source/Aster_(genus))*, *[Eucephalus](/source/Eucephalus_(plant))*, *[Erigeron](/source/Erigeron)*, *[Machaeranthera](/source/Machaeranthera)*, *[Croptilon](/source/Croptilon)*, *[Xanthisma](/source/Xanthisma)*, *[Oclemena](/source/Oclemena)*, *[Bradburia](/source/Bradburia_(plant))*, *[Oxypappus](/source/Oxypappus)*, *[Arnica](/source/Arnica)*, and *[Helichrysopsis](/source/Helichrysopsis)*.[4]

Golden asters are often used as food plants by the [larvae](/source/Larva) of some [Lepidoptera](/source/Lepidoptera) species, including *[Schinia petulans](/source/Schinia_petulans)* (which feeds exclusively on *[C. subulata](/source/Chrysopsis_subulata)*).
