# Christopher Pepys

**George Christopher Pepys Cutts** (29 June 1914 – 4 April 1974) was, from 1964 to 1974, the fifth [Bishop of Buckingham](/source/Bishop_of_Buckingham) in the [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England).

Pepys was educated at [Winchester College](/source/Winchester_College) and [Oriel College, Oxford](/source/Oriel_College,_Oxford)[1] and studied for [ordination](/source/Ordination) at [Ripon College Cuddesdon](/source/Ripon_College_Cuddesdon) before a [curacy](/source/Curate) at St John the Divine's [Kennington](/source/Kennington).[2] After wartime service in the [Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve](/source/Royal_Naval_Volunteer_Reserve) (RNVR) he was successively [Rector](/source/Rector_(ecclesiastical)) of [Hartfield, Sussex](/source/Hartfield,_Sussex),[3] [Vicar](/source/Vicar) of St Mark's [Portsea](/source/Portsea,_Portsmouth) and, before his ordination to the [episcopate](/source/Episcopate), [Rural Dean](/source/Rural_Dean) of [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool).[4] He died in post in 1974. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth (d. 2009), who later married another Church of England Bishop, [Michael Mann](/source/Michael_Mann_(bishop)).[5]
