**Christopher Jullien** (born 22 March 1993) is a French-Martinican professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [centre-back](/source/Centre-back) for [Ligue 2](/source/Ligue_2) club [Montpellier](/source/Montpellier_HSC). He is a former [France youth international](/source/France_national_youth_football_team), having represented his country at [under-20](/source/France_national_under-20_football_team) level.

## Club career

### Early career and Auxerre

Born in France, he has origins from French island, Martinique. After failing to earn selection into the prestigious [Clairefontaine](/source/INF_Clairefontaine) academy, Jullien joined another local Parisian club, [Torcy](/source/US_Torcy), the same club that produced the [French national team](/source/France_national_football_team)'s [Paul Pogba](/source/Paul_Pogba).[4] He then left in 2006 for [Auxerre](/source/AJ_Auxerre).

After a year spent playing with the club's reserve team, former coach [Jean-Guy Wallemme](/source/Jean-Guy_Wallemme) started playing him during the [2012–13 campaign](/source/2012%E2%80%9313_in_French_football) in the second division. He made his club debut on 24 August 2012, when Auxerre won 2–1 against [Laval](/source/Stade_Lavallois).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] Jullien scored his first professional goal a week later, in a League Cup match against [Dijon](/source/Dijon_FCO).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

### SC Freiburg

Jullien signed his first professional contract with SC Freiburg on a free transfer, after Auxerre failed to do so in the summer of 2013.[5][6] During his first season in Freiburg, although he only appeared for the second team, he played in the fourth tier, the [Regionalliga](/source/Regionalliga).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

#### Loan to Dijon

In late June 2015, Jullien was loaned to Dijon in [Ligue 2](/source/Ligue_2).[7]

### Toulouse

On 1 July 2016, Jullien signed a four-year contract for [Ligue 1](/source/Ligue_1) side [Toulouse](/source/Toulouse_FC).[8]

### Celtic

On 28 June 2019, Jullien signed a four-year contract for [Celtic](/source/Celtic_F.C.). He signed for a fee rumored to be in the region of £7 million, which would make him Celtic's second most expensive signing (after fellow Frenchman [Odsonne Édouard](/source/Odsonne_%C3%89douard), who signed for £9 million the previous summer).[9]

In the following game against Romanians [CFR Cluj](/source/CFR_Cluj), Jullien was left on the bench as Celtic crashed out losing 4–3 on the night and 5–4 on aggregate in a Champions League Qualifying 3rd round 2nd leg tie.[10] He scored his first goal for Celtic in a [UEFA Europa League](/source/UEFA_Europa_League) qualifying tie against [AIK](/source/AIK_Fotboll) on 29 August 2019.[11] He suffered a head injury in a game in September 2019.[12]

Jullien won his first domestic trophy, scoring the only goal in a 1–0 victory over [Rangers](/source/Rangers_F.C.) in the [2019 Scottish League Cup Final](/source/2019_Scottish_League_Cup_Final) on 8 December at [Hampden Park](/source/Hampden_Park).[13]

### Montpellier

On 23 August 2022, Jullien signed with Ligue 1 side [Montpellier](/source/Montpellier_HSC) on a three-year contract.[14] Celtic received a transfer fee of £700,000.[15]

## International career

Jullien was a member of [France U20](/source/France_national_under-20_football_team) team that won France's first ever [FIFA U-20 World Cup](/source/2013_FIFA_U-20_World_Cup) held in Turkey.
