# Christopher Herzig

**Christopher Herzig** (24 October 1926 – 1 September 1993) was a British [civil servant](/source/Civil_servant). He served as [Principal Private Secretary](/source/Principal_Private_Secretary) to four cabinet ministers, including [Lord Hailsham](/source/Quintin_Hogg,_Baron_Hailsham_of_St_Marylebone) and Sir [Edward Boyle](/source/Edward_Boyle,_Baron_Boyle_of_Handsworth).[1]

Christopher was the son of Leopold Adolf Herzig.[2]

Herzig was involved with [Frank Cousins](/source/Frank_Cousins_(British_politician)), [C. P. Snow](/source/C._P._Snow), [Patrick Blackett](/source/Patrick_Blackett) and [Maurice Dean](/source/Maurice_Dean) in setting up the [Ministry of Technology](/source/Ministry_of_Technology) in 1964.[3]

## Family life

He married Rachel Buxton, the daughter of [P. A. Buxton](/source/P._A._Buxton) on 19 July 1952. They had five children together.[2]
